ALWAYS POSTED A WEEK EARLIER ON PATREON

Podcast Updates

This past week I had a fun time welcoming back the incredibly talented and award-winning illustrator and storyteller, Hannah England of Studio Hannah.com to the show.

We had a great time talking about post-pandemic convention life, content vs art, and some branding tips!

Project Updates

From a project perspective, I have been actively returning to doing daily drawings to get myself back up to standard for my next project.  I am still debating on what WIP to concentrate on next.  Despite that internal debate, I have been transposing more Nigerian proverbs for my proverbs book this week.  I am desperately trying to make sure there is equity amongst the different cultures in Niger.  For example, I want to be sure that if I have 100 Hausa proverbs, then I need to have 100 proverbs for each other's culture represented.

What I’m reading

I read book 3 of ‘5 Worlds’ this past week.  I continue to enjoy the character development and storyline.  I am particularly pleased to see how the evolution of each main character happens at a different pace.  For example, in the first book the main character discovers her hidden power; in the second book, the android evolves into something more; in the third book, another main character is starting to grow.  Whilst this is happening, to keep the reader interested the first main character who has already evolved, is now facing challenges and self-doubt.  This keeps the reader engaged, and I appreciate that.

Like most middle-grade graphic novel fantasies, the ending will probably never be a surprise (good guys win), so the innovative storytelling is in how the journey takes place.

Personal Updates

Earlier this week we had a bit of a snowstorm.  We ended up having about 4 inches of thick and wet snow.  It made for a yucky morning, but most of it melted by the end of the day.

Also, my wife got a new tattoo of a dragon eating an oatmeal cookie.  She really did not, but I just wanted to type that in to test whether she reads my blog.

My Noom journey is still slow-moving now but very positive still.  I am trying to pace myself to at least lose a pound a week.  Right now, I’m hovering around 184 pounds so, my goal is to get down to 183 pounds by the end of next week.

I was really honored to be a guest on Dave Sundstrom’s live stream show this past Thursday.  He was a guest on my podcast way back on episode 71 and I have been a fan of his YouTube channel for years and it was exciting to be on his show.  We talked about ‘The Greatest American Hero’ show along with other vintage superhero shows.

I was on Dave’s Livestream!
