The Scariest Comic You Haven’t Read… Yet

In the latest episode of Storycomic Presents, Matt Forsyth, creator of the cult favorite BounD, returns to talk about his BounD – Volume 1 (Remastered) Kickstarter. In this visually stunning reimagining, Matt revisits his original sci‑fi horror comic, infusing it with sharper lines, richer textures, and a refined aesthetic that honors the doom-laden spirit of the original while elevating its cinematic intensity.

Listeners learn how he approached re-sketching and redesign—preserving what worked and enhancing what didn’t—and how crowdfunding connects him directly with backers ready to support renewed indie vision. Matt’s also candid about the creative challenges, favorite reworked panels, and the sense of creative redemption in tackling a project twice. KidLitGN: The Free Pitch Event That Changes Careers

This week on Storycomic Presents, we had the pleasure of welcoming back author and graphic novel advocate Johnell DeWitt to talk about one of the most exciting initiatives in children’s publishing today—KidLitGN.

KidLitGN is a grassroots campaign and pitch event that helps connect authors and illustrators of graphic novels for young readers with agents and editors who are actively seeking new talent. It’s not just a pitch event—it’s a vibrant community dedicated to boosting visibility for creators in a rapidly growing corner of the publishing world. Whether you're an author working on your first graphic novel or an illustrator with a portfolio ready to share, KidLitGN offers real opportunities to be seen and heard.

Johnell shared insights into how the pitch event works, what agents are really looking for, and how creators can stand out in a crowded field. We also touched on her own creative projects and her passion for making space for diverse stories in the kidlit and graphic novel space.

Project Update: Editing, Origins, and Podcast Prep

This week I’ve been putting some fresh energy back into Appliance. I’ve started doing new edits and have been especially focused on refining some of the origin stories. It’s been fun to dig back into the details and give those sections more shape and personality—it really helps bring the whole game world together.

On a project-adjacent note, I’ve also started prepping for the new season of Vermont Artists and Authors. I know that technically falls under podcast updates, but since it’s a big part of my creative work, it feels right to include it here. Getting ready for another season of conversations with local talent always gets me excited—it’s a reminder of why I love doing these projects in the first place.

Book Review: Goodnight iPad – A Tech-Loving Take on a Classic Bedtime Tale

Yes, Goodnight iPad by Ann Droyd is indeed a real book—and what a clever one it is! It’s a modern parody of the beloved Goodnight Moon, updated for our gadget-filled lives. Written under the pseudonym Ann Droyd—who is really David Milgrim—this quirky picture book humorously captures how plugged in we’ve all become.

The story unfolds in a "bright buzzing room" illuminated by iPhones, Androids, Blackberries, WiFi TVs, and even viral cat videos. As lavender-colored lights flicker, a fed-up grandmother begins tossing each digital distraction out the window, declaring, “Goodnight LOLs, Goodnight LCD Wi-Fi HDTV,” until all is finally quiet.

What I love is how this bedtime parody pokes affectionate fun at our modern habits—with perfect gentle humor and beautifully playful illustrations. It reminds us to hit pause, unplug, and reclaim that old-fashioned, glowing warmth of analog bedtime.

Personal Update: Reviews, Routines, and Radio

This past week had a bit of a pleasant disruption to my usual rhythm. One of the boards I sit on had a federal review taking place, and I attended three of the meetings I was required to be at. That meant coming into work late for three days straight—so naturally, I stayed later to make up the time. It made the paper delivery schedule a little funky, but we managed to keep everything on track.

On top of that, I also had an Outdoor Edge broadcast this week, and it went really well. It felt good to slip back into that groove, connect with the audience, and share the show. Even with the juggling, it turned out to be a productive and fulfilling week.
