Plugged In: Jorge Medina Returns with a Shockingly Fun New Hero

Jorge Medina is back on Storycomic Presents, and he’s bringing the charge—literally. This time, the indie comic creator behind Wonder Duck joins me to talk about his latest graphic novel, The Shameless Plug, currently live on Kickstarter. The book stars a quirky superhero who happens to be...a phone charger. Yes, you read that right.

In the interview, Jorge shares how this offbeat idea came to life, blending sharp humor with bold storytelling to create a character that’s as absurd as he is oddly relatable. We talk about the creative freedom Kickstarter affords indie creators, how Jorge has built a loyal fanbase, and why The Shameless Plug is more than just a comic—it’s a commentary on our plugged-in lives.

Check out more about Jorge’s work and his other series by visiting his site at getyourmedz.com. If you’re looking for a fresh and hilarious take on superhero storytelling, this project is worth a look.

Don’t miss this one—it’s funny, insightful, and full of creative energy.

Project Update: Appliance Back on the Workbench

This week, I’ve officially jumped back into my Appliance game book—rereading everything I’ve written so far and starting to make some light edits and tweaks. It’s been fun revisiting the world and mechanics after some time away, and it’s giving me a clearer idea of how I want to polish and expand it moving forward.

To help get back into the right headspace, I’ve also been rewatching other FATE Core games. It’s a great refresher on the system’s flexibility and storytelling potential, and it’s giving me all kinds of ideas for how Appliance can play even smoother and funnier.

Slow and steady progress, but it feels good to be back at it.

Book Review: Septimus Bean and His Amazing Machine – Wonderfully Wacky and Whimsically Wise

One of my favorite parts of yard sale season is stumbling upon vintage children’s books that still sparkle with charm—and Septimus Bean and His Amazing Machine is exactly that kind of find. It’s delightfully odd, joyfully illustrated, and full of that classic picture-book whimsy that never gets old.

The story follows the eccentric inventor Septimus Bean and his mysterious “amazing machine.” No one knows what it’s supposed to do—including Septimus himself. Naturally, this leads to confusion, criticism, and ultimately, a wonderfully unexpected discovery. The beauty of the book is that it celebrates curiosity, persistence, and the idea that not everything has to have a clear purpose right away to be worthwhile.

The artwork is just as quirky and imaginative as the story itself, with illustrations that feel like they’re bursting right out of a mid-century art studio. It’s a visual treat and a total joy to read aloud.

Reading this with my own kids brought big laughs, wide-eyed moments, and more than a few “what IS that machine actually supposed to do?” questions. It’s the kind of story that invites conversation, creativity, and a healthy dose of silliness.

A great yard sale score, and a fantastic reminder that some of the best books are the ones that leave you wondering, dreaming, and smiling all at once.

Personal Update: Page Counts, Pizza Parties, and Radio Races

We’ve officially hit three weeks in a row with the paper running at a solid 24 pages—which feels like a big accomplishment. The content is flowing, and it’s great to see the paper holding strong. That said, the sales team has been a bit slow bringing in new clients for both the radio and the paper. I’m starting to think it might just be the time of year—summer can be busy for a lot of local businesses, so we’ll keep pushing and be patient as things pick back up.

Over on the eBay front, I’m happy to report some great news: I hit my 90-day sales goal! It’s a good feeling seeing that number get crossed off. Of course, that just means it’s time to raise the bar and set a new goal—onward and upward!

This past Saturday was a big day on the home front too—we celebrated all three kids’ birthdays with one big party at the local pizza place. It was loud, fun, and full of energy. I couldn’t stay the whole time because I had to head out for a race broadcast that evening, but the event went off without a hitch. A full day, and one that reminded me how busy—but rewarding—this season of life really is.
