Why You Should Trust Your Gut (And the Universe) with Karoleen Fober
In the latest episode of Storycomic Presents, I had the pleasure of speaking with Karoleen Fober, a renowned spiritual teacher and intuitive coach. Karoleen shared insights from her book, Opening to Divine Intervention, where she introduces the ACUTE system—a framework designed to help individuals recognize and interpret Divine messages in their daily lives. With a background in early childhood education and financial planning, Karoleen's transition into spiritual coaching was both profound and inspiring.
Throughout our conversation, Karoleen emphasized the importance of intuition in navigating life's challenges and opportunities. She discussed the 15 types of Divine Intervention and how understanding these can lead to personal and professional growth. Her approach combines practical tools with spiritual wisdom, making the journey accessible to all.
Listeners will find value in Karoleen's experiences and teachings, whether they're new to spiritual exploration or seasoned in their journey. Her dedication to helping others connect with their inner guidance is evident, and her methods offer a roadmap for those seeking clarity and purpose. Project Update: Daddest Jokes – A Slower Week
This week’s been a bit slower on the Daddest Jokes front. Most of my energy got rerouted to catching up on day job responsibilities, which piled up a bit after the chaos of last weekend’s comic event and Easter. That said, even if I didn’t get a ton of new pages done, I’m still chipping away at it bit by bit.
I’ve been trying to remind myself that progress isn’t always measured in pages completed. Sometimes it’s the organizing, the tweaking, the mental planning that keeps a project moving forward—even if it’s less flashy. Hoping for a more productive stretch this coming week once things level out at work.
Book Review: Freezer Burn – A Cool Classic of Wordplay
This week I’ve been thinking back to a little book that helped shape my love of cartoons and wordplay: Freezer Burn: Oxymorons and Other Contradictions of Everyday Life. I received it as a birthday gift back in 1991, and even though it’s small, it left a huge impression on me.
Freezer Burn is a clever, compact cartoon collection that lives entirely in the realm of contradictions—visual and verbal. Every page delivers a witty interpretation of oxymorons and paradoxes we encounter in everyday language, brought to life through simple yet expressive illustrations. The humor is sharp but gentle, never mean-spirited, and it manages to be both thoughtful and hilarious.
What stuck with me the most, especially at a young age, was how the book turned language into a playground. It gave me permission to find joy in puns, paradoxes, and those weird little quirks of English that often go unnoticed. That playful approach to words—and the visual wit that accompanied it—was a real lightbulb moment for me as both a reader and a budding cartoon lover.
Rereading it now, it still holds up. It’s a reminder that a good cartoon doesn’t have to be loud or flashy; sometimes, it’s just about a clever idea, well-executed. And for me, Freezer Burn was one of the first to show me how much fun that could be.
Personal Update: Momentum and Milestones
This past week has been delightfully busy—one of those stretches where there’s a lot in motion, but most of it’s been really positive. Edith and I have been in the middle of transitioning to a new (well, returning) financial advisor. Our previous advisor, who we really liked, is retiring, so we’re reconnecting with the advisor we had before we moved to Vermont. She’s got such great energy and a deep well of knowledge, and honestly, it feels really good to be working with her again. There’s something reassuring about returning to someone who already understands your history and goals.
On the work side of things, a huge milestone: we’ve officially finalized the mailing process for the paper! This is especially exciting because it hasn’t been mailed out in over a year. Getting that distribution channel up and running again feels like a big step forward. Even better—we’re jumping from 4,200 copies to over 10,000. That’s a major boost, and it opens up new potential for advertising and readership. Lots of exciting things ahead!
