This past week we had two amazing authors come on the show. Both authors of historical novels.
Pathology and Protégés: Audrey Gale's 1920's Medical Thriller, "The Human Trial"
In Episode 384 of Storycomic Presents, we had the privilege of hosting Audrey Gale, an author who masterfully combines her fascination with historical and scientific research to craft compelling narratives. Audrey’s latest novel, "The Human Trial," sets a new standard for medical thrillers with its intricate plot set against the backdrop of Harvard's prestigious medical landscape. The story follows Dr. Randall Archer as he navigates groundbreaking scientific advancements and grapples with profound ethical questions. Audrey shared how her extensive background in banking unexpectedly complemented her writing, providing a unique perspective on the complexities of human behavior and the ethical dilemmas that arise in high-stakes environments. Her passion for storytelling is palpable, as she delves into the personal journeys of her characters, making "The Human Trial" not just a medical thriller but a profound exploration of the human condition. This interview not only highlighted the depth of Audrey’s research into the era and the setting but also her commitment to portraying the emotional and moral challenges faced by those at the forefront of medical science.
Exploring Love and Sacrifice in Rural Vermont with J. Peter Cobb
In our latest episode of Storycomic Presents, we had the pleasure of welcoming J. Peter Cobb, a distinguished Vermont author whose deep roots in the community enrich his compelling narratives. Cobb's latest novel, "Some Things Aren’t Meant to Be," beautifully encapsulates the essence of rural Vermont life through the intertwined fates of its characters. During the interview, Cobb shared insights into how his varied career—from journalism to community service—has provided a rich backdrop for his storytelling. The novel, set against the rugged backdrop of a Vermont dairy farm, delves into complex themes of love, faith, and the choices that define us. Cobb’s portrayal of his protagonist, John Gauthier, as he transitions from farmhand to Roman Catholic priest, challenges readers to ponder the moral complexities of commitment and personal sacrifice. This episode not only highlighted Cobb’s profound connection to his settings and characters but also his ability to weave his real-life experiences into compelling, thought-provoking fiction. It was an enlightening discussion that offered our audience a deeper appreciation for the intricate layers of human emotion and the pastoral beauty of Vermont.
Project Update: 'Daddest Jokes' Reaches a Milestone!
Exciting news! I’ve officially reached over 500 jokes for the 'Daddest Jokes' project. It’s been a fun and sometimes groan-worthy journey, but we’re making great progress. I’m continuing to fine-tune the collection, and each joke is getting us closer to the final product.
Book Review: "PopularMMOs #3: Zombies' Day Off"
If you're looking for a fun, action-packed graphic novel perfect for young readers, "PopularMMOs #3: Zombies' Day Off" is a fantastic choice! As the third installment in the PopularMMOs graphic novel series, this book is a delightful adventure filled with humor, exciting plot twists, and fantastic artwork.
While the story does reference previous events, I love how this book allows new readers to jump in without feeling lost. I didn’t feel like I needed to go back and read the first two books before enjoying this one. The plot follows Pat and Jen, YouTube sensations, as they navigate a new world full of mysteries and villains. With Jen off on a quest to the underworld to uncover a secret about her past, Pat is left scrambling to find her. Meanwhile, a new villain with a team of ninja sailors emerges, threatening both the underworld and the real world. The twist of having Pat and Jen team up with Evil Jen adds a fun dynamic to the story.
The illustrations by Dani Jones are a highlight for me. Her style is incredibly approachable for children, with vibrant colors and a great sense of movement that keeps the action lively and engaging. At over 200 pages, it might seem like a lot for younger readers, but the book is a quick, entertaining read. The storyline is well-paced, and the characters are charming, making it enjoyable for both kids and adults.
Overall, "Zombies' Day Off" is a great addition to the PopularMMOs series, offering an entertaining mix of adventure, teamwork, and self-discovery. Whether you're a Minecraft fan or just love a good graphic novel, this book is sure to be a hit!
Personal Update: Soccer Dad Life and New Adventures
It’s been a busy and exciting week! First off, I can officially say I’m a soccer dad now—Elizabeth has started soccer, and I’m enjoying cheering her on from the sidelines. It’s such a fun new chapter for us.
Edith and I also had a great date night at a fundraising dinner for The Old Church Theatre. The event was filled with good food, live music, and great company. It was nice to support a local cause while enjoying a night out together.
On the work front, I’m thrilled to report that I had my first successful episode of The Outdoor Edge! It was a little different than recording a podcast, but not too far off, and it went really well. I’m excited that I was able to turn it into a podcast afterward, so it’s available for folks to listen to on-demand.
To wrap up the week, we celebrated my mother-in-law’s birthday on Saturday. It was a nice family gathering, and we had a great time marking the occasion.
