Podcast Updates

This week I had two really fun interviews with some comic creators.  Both were creative stories involving monsters.

This last Tuesday, Dalton K Shannon and Wells Thompson came on the show to chat about their hugely successful Kickstarter campaign, ‘Frankenstein: Unconqured’

I had a really great time talking to them about the birth and creation of this unique action-horror comic and they provided some good tips and advice for other budding creators and experienced comic creators too!

On Thursday, Dan Price came back on the show to chat about Chapter 2 of his runaway comic book hit, ‘Bigfoot Knows Karate’.

We had some really good conversations on the benefits and drawbacks of world-building prior to writing a script and the symbiotic relationship comics have with social media platforms.

I always love chatting with Dan.

Project Updates

This was another week of plugging away at the ‘Appliance’ game.

I had a really creative drive that I am recently delighting in with the continuous depth of learning more about this adventurous world of inanimate objects.  This past week I worked more with the separation and generalized stereotypes each generation of an object has towards each other. This has been fun in putting this together as it parallels how each generation of humans feels toward the older or younger generations.

What I’m reading

My stack of library books has started to get a bit daunting for me, so in order to not get on the ‘naughty’ list for my local library, I needed to be more proactive in tackling my pile of graphic novels.

I tend to gravitate more towards the library's graphic novel section as I recently enjoy how their stories vary heavily in tone and subject matter.

‘Baba Yaga’s Assistant’ was geared towards the young adult audience, but at the same time had some pretty adult themes of the death of family members, while discussing the importance of finding one’s own life path based on the values and wisdom established by multi-generational households.

Markia McCoola, the author of the graphic novel found a great partner with Emily Carroll’s illustrations.

McCoola’s inaugural story does so well in focusing on family and fairy tales and how both live so closely together match Carroll’s accessible and intimate art style.

I certainly hope these two work together again.

Personal Updates

The leaves are officially red, yellow, and orange and the weather is now frosty at night and brisk in the day.

I have not mentioned at all in the last several months, how my weight loss journey is progressing mostly because the story is that there is no story.  I am still fixed at 185 pounds and have been passively struggling to lose the last 10 pounds to get to my goal weight of 174. I have been staying in the mid-’80s for a few months.

The good news is that I now have over a year of weight loss behind me and I can easily and safely say that the weight loss journey is firmly entrenched in a new lifestyle.  What I mean is that I no longer have urges, inclinations, or desires to eat foods that are objectively bad for me.  My tastes have turned towards fresh fruits and vegetables and unprocessed and low-processed foods.  I am not ever worried about getting to 200 lbs anymore, but I really am excited to eventually get to my goal weight, but darn it if these last 10 pounds are my new adversary.

My First work trip since COVID!

The fun of working on the train
